Jurassic Park (1993) Novel, Screenplay Crichton began writing Jurassic Park in 1983. He temporarily dropped the idea because of a worldwide fad in dinosaurs which threatened to make his vision of an island of cloned dinosaurs seem exploitative. Seven years later, Crichton sold his tale of an island full of cloned dinosaurs to Universal and Spielberg for some $2 million. The resulting film was a landmark in computer-generated imagery as velociraptors and T-Rexes appeared to roam the earth once more. The film, starring Sam Neill and Laura Dern, earned close to a billion dollars at the box office, and spawned two sequels. Jurassic Park IV is in development.
