Apocalypse Now

'Apocalypse Now' (1979) Plot: The U.S. Army sends a captain (Martin Sheen) upriver and into the jungles of Vietnam in order to assassinate a special forces colonel named Kurtz (Marlon Brando). Remake of: While the main plot and many character names were taken from Joseph Conrad's novella "Heart of Darkness," director Francis Ford Coppola has acknowledged a deep debt to Werner Herzog's similar madness-on-a-jungle-river film, "Aguirre, the Wrath of God." Credit? Conrad's novella wasn't copyrighted in the U.S. The documentary about the making of the film, though, was titled "Hearts of Darkness." Miramax Films
