Classic Hollywood:  ‘Creating the Illusion’ celebrates the work of Hollywood’s costume designers

Edith Head, Cecil Beaton, Colleen Atwood, Adrian and Walter Plunkett are among the dozens of famous designers profiled in the lavish new coffee table book “Creating the Illusion: A Fashionable History of Hollywood Costume Designers” by film and fashion historian Jay Jorgensen and historian and attorney Donald L. Scoggins. The book, from Running Press and Turner Classic Movies, is filled with candid photos of the various designers, wardrobe tests, sketches as well as photos of the costumes. Among the films discussed are “Pandora’s Box,” “Rear Window,” “Taxi Driver,” “Bonnie and Clyde” and even “The Big Lebowski.”
