'Hancock,' 2008

John Hancock (Will Smith) is a reckless vigilante superhero who saves Ray (Jason Bateman), who in turn helps reform his image. Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), has some mysterious connection with Hancock.<br><br>

<b>Why it failed/how they broke up:</b> Mary tells Hancock, who lost his memory in 1931 when he was beaten when seen with Mary (racial overtones), that she and he are immortals that are "paired" together and have lived for 3,000 years. Problem is, if they get close, they lose their immortality and powers. Mary ends up staying with Ray, and Hancock must keep his distance in order to remain a hero. Tragic.
