Al Pacino to bring ‘Salome’ to the American Cinematheque

Share

The American Cinematheque probably gave Al Pacino an offer he couldn’t refuse: The opportunity to screen two films he stars in and directed -- the 2011 documentary “Wilde Salome” and his 2013 version of Oscar Wilde’s play “Salome.”

Pacino will appear in person Aug. 4 at the Aero and then visit the Egyptian on Aug. 10.

“Wild Salome,” which received its premiere two years ago at the Venice Film Festival and is set to open theatrically in October, chronicles the 2006 L.A. production of “Salome,” in which Pacino starred with a then-unknown Jessica Chastain. “Wild Salome” won the Queer Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival.

Pacino says that “Salome,” which rounds out the double bill, “is my attempt to merge play and film. The mediums can collide and my hope is to have them unify so that you’re seeing pure theater on film.”

Tickets to both the Aero and Egyptian presentations are available only to American Cinematheque members through July 18 on the members-only phone line. Remaining tickets will be available to the public beginning July 19 at the Cinematheque box offices and at Fandango.
