'American Sniper,' 'Guardians' receive Cinema Audio Society nominations

“American Sniper,” “Birdman” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” are among the nominees announced Tuesday morning for the Cinema Audio Society’s 51st CAS Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing in film and television for 2014.

Live-action motion picture nominees are “American Sniper,” “Birdman,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Interstellar” and “Unbroken.”

Nominated for the CAS Award in animated motion pictures are “Big Hero 6,” “The Boxtrolls,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “The Lego Movie” and “Penguins of Madagascar.”

Television movie or miniseries nominees are “American Horror Story: Monsters Among Us,” “Fargo: Part 2-The Rooster Prince,” “Houdini: Part 1,” “The Normal Heart” and “Sherlock: His Last Vow.”

Vying for the one-hour television CAS honor are “Boardwalk Empire: Friendless Child,” “Game of Thrones: The Children,” “Homeland: Redux,” “True Detective: Who Goes There” and “The Walking Dead: No Sanctuary.”

Nominees in the half-hour television series category are “Family Guy: The Simpsons Guy,” “Modern Family: Australia,” “Nurse Jackie: “The Lady With the Lamp,” “Parks and Recreation: Moving Up” and “Veep: Detroit”

Television nonfiction, variety or music series or special category nominees are “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey-Standing Up in the Milky Way,” “Deadliest Catch: Lost at Sea,” “Foo Fighters Sonic Highways: Los Angeles,” “2014: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,” and “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History-Part 3-The Fire of Life.”

The awards will be presented at a ceremony Feb. 14 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Doug McIntyre, host of KABC Talk Radio’s “McIntyre in the Morning” will be the master of ceremonies.
