The last 20 years have changed many things, but those looking for some good old reliability can take comfort in one thing that hasn’t changed: the perfect clueless, gross-out-ness of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. The two, ahem, heroes of the Farrelly brothers’ “Dumb and Dumber” are back up, or down, to their familiar tricks in “Dumb and Dumber To,” per a new trailer that hit on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday. (You can watch it here.)

The movie begins with Jim Carrey’s Lloyd, catatonic at a mental institution because he didn’t end up with love-of-his-life Mary Swanson two decades before, revealing to Jeff Daniels’ Harry that it’s been a prank all along. After bringing Lloyd back into the real world, Harry learns he has a daughter born 23 years before.

The first film put the pair on the road as they tried to return a briefcase of ransom money; this time, they hit the hustings to try to track down Harry’s Millennial daughter, whom Lloyd has a little crush on (based on a photo).

The gags, in all their nauseating and high-concept glory, soon follow — they involve everything from an anatomical sight joke with an older woman and a phone misunderstanding to make Abbott and Costello proud. As they continue on in their bubble of twisted logic and self-satisfied delusion, Lloyd and Harry learn a few lessons, or at least a few lessons they think they should be learning, which bear no resemblance to the real thing.

The film, which restores a cooled-off Carrey and a Will McAvoyed Daniels to the roles that helped establish their career, comes out Nov. 14, a date the pair would have at least a 60% chance of locating on a calendar.
