In just a few hours, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. will hand out the Golden Globes at what promises to be an effervescent stop in an unpredictable awards season for nominees including Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Alfonso Cuaron.

The first major award show of the season, the Globes are inconsistent as Oscar predictors, as the 90-odd international journalists who select the winners don’t overlap at all with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters. But with free-flowing Champagne, a relaxed atmosphere and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler once again at the helm, the show can be counted on to deliver its share of lively moments.
