Golden Globes 2014: Have you caught Philomania? DiCaprio starts trend

Share

Leonardo DiCaprio drew attention for more than just his lead actor in a comedy or musical win at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. In coming to the stage to present lead actress in a drama, DiCaprio mispronounced Stephen Frears’ “Philomena,” the Catholic-themed adoption story that was nominated for three Golden Globes, as “Philomania.”

It’s not clear when DiCaprio realized his slip of the tongue, but Golden Globe viewers caught on immediately. The word quickly became a top Twitter trend across the United States with the word “Philomania” even etched across a picture of the film’s lead actress, Judi Dench, looking confused.

Some asked questions about “Philomania’s” release in theaters as a sequel. Some tweeted shots of a different kind of “Philomania” — images of Dr. Phil McGraw. And then wrestling fans joined in on the hashtag fun — they cited references to “Hulkamania” and “Wrestlemania.” As @TaranKillam tweeted, “Who’s going to Philomania 2014? Wanna see Judi Dench pile-drive Steve Coogan!!!”
