Critic’s Pick: World 3-D Film Expo III at the Egyptian Theatre

If you are interested in 3-D, this is your moment. The World 3-D Film Expo III will be finishing its 10-day run Sunday, and between now and then more than a dozen features from the 1950s Golden Age of 3-D will be screened at the Egyptian Theatre at 6712 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, including film noirs such as “I, the Jury,” musicals such as “Those Redheads From Seattle” and indescribable items such as “Robot Monster.”

Then, starting Sept. 20, a film everyone can describe, the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz,” will make its Imax 3-D world premiere just down the street with a week-long run at the newly named TCL Chinese Theatre, which after taking the summer off, is re-opening its doors as the largest Imax theater in the world in terms of seating capacity. What it will mean to see Judy Garland, Bert Lahr, Ray Bolger and Jack Haley in the 3-D versions of their iconic roles is hard to say, but there is no doubt it will be different.
