At once powerful and understated, “Go For Sisters” follows a woman searching for her missing son. Bernice (LisaGay Hamilton) is a parole officer who reaches out to a childhood friend, Fontayne (Yolanda Ross,), whose life has found her frequently on the other side of the law. As their search takes them closer to the U.S.-Mexico border they enlist the aid of a disgraced former police detective (Edward James Olmos).

It is difficult to overstate Sayles’ place within the landscape of American independent filmmaking. Beginning with hs first film “Return of the Secaucus Seven” on through such titles as “Matewan,” “Eight Men Out,” “Lone Star” and more recently “Amigo,” he has remained a stalwart figure of integrity and perseverance.
