‘Point Break’ reboot adds Teresa Palmer as female lead

The bro-heavy “Point Break” reboot has found its female lead. Teresa Palmer, the Australian actress best known for her role in the zombie love story “Warm Bodies,” has joined the cast of the upcoming crime thriller, Alcon Entertainment announced Monday.

Palmer joins Luke Bracey (“G.I. Joe: Retaliation”), “Carlos” star Edgar Ramirez and tough-guy character actor Ray Winstone in the movie, which will once again tell the story of a hotshot FBI agent (Bracey) going undercover to bust a gang of thrill-seeking criminals.

This time around, the action will be transplanted from the Southern California surf scene of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 original to the world of international extreme sports.

Palmer will play Bracey’s love interest, matching the Lori Petty-Keanu Reeves dynamic of the first film. (Ramirez will portray the nirvana-seeking ringleader Bodhi originally played by Patrick Swayze, and Winstone will portray Bracey’s grizzled partner originally played by Gary Busey.)

Ericson Core, a cinematographer on “The Fast and the Furious” and “Daredevil,” is directing the new film, which is slated for release Aug. 7, 2015. Shooting starts this month.

Palmer previously had the lead love-interest role in the ‘80s-set comedy “Take Me Home Tonight” and an action part in “I Am Number Four.” Other upcoming movies include Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” and John Hillcoat’s “Triple Nine.”
