On Wednesday we noted that Shailene Woodley, star of the upcoming movies “Divergent” and “The Fault in Our Stars,” isn’t just a rising Hollywood starlet: She’s also a font of quirky wisdom.

Having gone over the benefits of eating clay and tanning one’s nether regions (of course), we now present another installment of Woodley wisdom.

On starting (and ending) the day right:

It’s important to get off on the right foot each day. In the August 2013 issue of Interview, Woodley talked to fellow actress Emma Stone about her morning ritual.

“The second I wake up, I scream very loudly [to the tune of ‘Good Morning’ from ‘Singin’ in the Rain’], ‘Good morning! Good morning!’ ” Woodley said. “And then I scream out, ‘Exciting day! Exciting day!’ I feel like it completely sets the mood for the whole day.”

Woodley does this “Every single morning. Unless I’m at someone’s house — then it might not be appropriate.”

As for winding down at night, Woodley said she consumes herbs that help with her dreaming: “One that I love for dreaming is called mugwort. It’s actually what we’d call a weed. You can find it all over America. You can dry it and make it into a tea or you can burn it like sage. It’s what the Native Americans used to do to bring on helpful dreams to encourage visions for the coming days.” Good to know.

On keeping in touch:

Android, iPhone or BlackBerry? None of the above for Woodley, who prefers a more personal approach to communication. She told the Daily Beast this month, “I’m not a big technology person. I don’t even have a smartphone. I don’t even have a cellphone!”

She continued, “If I were to have one, it would be a flip-phone. There’s a bigger lack of privacy than there’s ever been, but there’s also a bigger lack of camaraderie and community than there’s ever been. I mean … just asking people for directions. Since I got rid of my phone, having to pull over and be like, ‘Hey, buddy — do you know how to get here?’ I’m talking to people more than I’ve ever talked to in my life because I no longer have that crutch. The more you get away from all the technological buzz, the more freedom you have.”

On hugging:

Speaking of camaraderie, Woodley is a notorious hugger, heartily embracing co-stars, journalists and nearly everyone she meets.

She explained her philosophy during a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” telling the late-night host, “I love hugging, right? It’s like, I’m real, you’re real, let’s hug it out.”

The actress also said she prefers to hug on the left side, which promotes “a little heart-to-heart action.” Woodley then mused, “I feel like inherently we go to the other side, the right. What’s that about? Maybe it says something about our society that we go to the right and not to the heart.”

It could also be that most people are right-handed, no? In any case, let’s try to keep those hugs to the left from now on.
