'Moulin Rouge!,' 2001( Sue Adler / 20th Century Fox / February 13, 2013 )
Ewan McGregor plays a writer named Christian, who falls in love with the Moulin Rouge's famed courtesan-cabaret dancer, Satine, played by Nicole Kidman, in 1899.
Why it failed/how they broke up: Christian continuously courts Satine with words, humor and money in this over-the-top musical that includes elephants, circus acts and 20th Century hit songs. While the two share several moments of epic musical mashups and pleasure, Satine hides the fact that she is terminally ill, leading him to write a play about their short-lived love affair the following year that is dubbed a "love that will live forever." |
