Father John Misty needs an ambulance in the ‘I Love You, Honeybear’ video

Father John Misty has a well-documented love of morbid vehicles, so its perhaps no surprise that he set his latest video largely in the back of an ambulance.

The clip for the title track off his new album “I Love You, Honeybear” begins with a couple of EMTs (Brett Gelman and Susan Traylor) fooling around in their vehicle, pounding whiskey shots, making headbands out of gauze and generally not being on-call to respond to emergencies.

Like, say, a gas leak that’s slowly descending over Father John Misty and his wife in bed.

When the EMTs get the call, it’s a bleary and desperate ride over, and not to ruin the ending but this is a Father John Misty video — you can imagine it doesn’t end well for someone.

Misty’s Josh Tillman co-directed the video with Grant James and wrote the story with his real-life wife Emma. It’s their second strikingly intimate video to show a version of their home life — “Chateau Lobby #4 (In C For Two Virgins)” was filmed partly during their wedding anniversary.

The band was one of the highlights of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but on their own stage and pinch-hitting for an injured Florence + the Machine. Few L.A. acts have been as fun to keep up with — just try not to end up in the back of his hearse.
