Jennifer Lopez will be the next Vegas residency diva

The divas are taking Sin City like a summer dust storm.

Following the launch of Britney Spears and Mariah Carey’s career-rebooting Vegas engagements, Jennifer Lopez has now announced she’s doing the same.

Lopez formalized her forthcoming stint at Planet Hollywood during Tuesday’s episode of “American Idol.” With that show’s 15-season run ending next year, Lopez now has time to pursure a lengthy engagement like this, and early hints suggest it will cover the breadth of her career and all its styles.

Lopez said in a statement that “the show is going to be a multifaceted high-energy Jenny from the block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love -- dance, hip hop, Latin and pop. It’s going to be the show I’ve always dreamt of creating.”

The engagement follows her most recent album “A.K.A.,” which was released in June to generally good reviews. The Times’ Gerrick Kennedy said it “showcases a singer better adept at balancing her pop and hip-hop roots. She zips from the dancey title track to the breezy electro-pop of the Max Martin-produced “First Love” to sticky hip-hop offerings such as “Acting Like That” and “I Luh Ya Papi” to torch ballads.”

The first round of shows begin Jan. 20 and continue through June 12, 2016, taking a significant break from late February to late May. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m.

The announcement is bittersweet for Lopez, who is also saying goodbye to “Idol,” one of her main career occupations in recent years.

“I’m sad about the show ending of course,” she said. “Do I believe it’s really ending? I have not come to terms with that yet. It might not. You never know these things? But it’s sad to hear that kind of news. I’m glad that we have another year – that we get to have a farewell season, if that is the case and it will be over next year.”
