Adam Levine slams the Roxy over old Maroon 5 dressing room snub

Here’s an unexpected feud. Near the end of Monday night’s episode of the NBC talent show “The Voice,” Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine took a moment to slam the West Hollywood club the Roxy.

Why? Apparently the club didn’t give the band a dressing room.

The jab came while Levine and his coaching peers were giving comments to contestant Cassadee Pope, the former lead singer of Florida rock band Hey Monday. Pope had just completed a rendition of Michelle Branch’s “Are You Happy Now?” and the song appeared to trigger an unhappy memory for Levine.

“We used to open for Michelle Branch,” Levine told Pope. “I remember we opened for her at the Roxy, and they didn’t even give us a dressing home. I hate the Roxy. I’ll never play there again.”

Pope, whose Warped Tour vets Hey Monday have done some time at the Roxy, tried to protest. “I love the Roxy,” she said.

Levine didn’t let up. “Oh, the Roxy is horrible,” he corrected. “Don’t ever go there. “

When the audience started to chatter, Levine justified his rant. “They screwed us over,” he said. “And now they’re paying for it.”

Of course, watching pop stars give off-the-cuff advice and commentary is part of the appeal of “The Voice,” and the Roxy seemed willing to have some fun with the rant. The Sunset Strip staple tweeted a photo of its marquee Monday night, which now contained a message to “The Voice” judge.

“Adam Levine your dressing room is ready,” read the marquee.

A follow-up tweet from the Roxy, which appears to have been deleted, sarcastically read, “Bands need dressing rooms” with the hashtag, “notetoself.”

That appears to be the end of it -- for now.
