Carly Rae Jepsen rocks warehouse party in ‘This Kiss’ video

If you’d asked Pop & Hiss three months ago which hallmark of the summer would still be with us come late October -- 90-degree days or Carly Rae Jepsen -- we’d definitely have picked the Canadian singer whose “Call Me Maybe” spent nine consecutive weeks atop the Hot 100.

Not long into fall, though, Jepsen’s chart dominance is already beginning to seem like a memory. “Kiss,” her American major-label debut, sits at No. 49 on Billboard’s album chart (behind the “Rock of Ages” soundtrack -- yikes!), while the disc’s sort-of title track, “This Kiss,” has so far stalled out at No. 86.

In the case of the latter, at least, that’s an unjust fate. Co-produced by RedFoo of LMFAO and Jepsen’s boyfriend Matthew Koma, “This Kiss” is a frothy electro-pop delight more appealing than a good number of the tunes it trails on the Hot 100 (including Jepsen’s own Owl City duet, “Good Time”). Fans of late-career Kylie Minogue, in particular, should do their part to rescue the song from its future as a footnote.

Perhaps a music video will revive “This Kiss.” In Jepsen’s new clip, which premiered online Sunday, she performs the tune at a wholesome-looking warehouse party, backed by a scruffy live band that couldn’t sound less involved with the music we’re hearing. (Watch it below.) As of Monday afternoon the video had racked up nearly 600,000 views on YouTube -- only 314 million fewer than “Call Me Maybe.”
