Maybe fatherhood is making him tired, but Kanye West’s performance of “Blood on the Leaves” was relatively sedate compared to everything that came before. Relying on a low camera angle and a large silhouette, West appeared to loom above the crowds like a giant, without having to show much of his face (despite an extreme close-up in low light at the beginning). After picking up the Moon Man for best female video for “I Knew You Were Trouble,” she made a point of thanking one of her many ex-boyfriends. “I want to thank the guy who inspired this song -- he knows exactly who he is -- because now I got one of these!” That’ll show him. Video Vanguard award winner Justin Timberlake isn’t just popular with the fans, he also seems to be popular with his peers, judging by the cut-aways to Lady Gaga and Rihanna, both of whom were mouthing along to the words of Timberlake’s greatest hits medley. ‘N Sync wasn’t the only pop group that used the MTV Video Music Awards to stage a comeback. Before Sunday’s big show, Danity Kane announced that it was plotting a big return too.

Members of the urban pop girl group handpicked and developed by Sean “Diddy” Combs on the third season of MTV’s reality show “Making the Band” revealed that they were hard at work on new music and that a single called “Rage” would debut shortly.

Rumors of a reunion have swirled since May, when four of the five original members -- Dawn Richard, Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres and Shannon Bex -- were spotted headed to a lunch meeting at the Grove in L.A.

The group’s fifth member, D. Woods won’t be joining because she had “signed on to several projects” but wished her cohorts luck in a statement that also included a plug for her new single.

Danity Kane was launched in 2005, and the band’s first two albums shot straight to No. 1, a record for girl groups. But after four years of on-camera internal turmoil, Combs dramatically disbanded the group and kept Richard as the sole girl signed to his Bad Boy imprint.

Richard later became a member of his hip-hop fusion collective Diddy-Dirty Money and left her deal with Combs to focus on a solo project.

“There is no answer to tell you what happened. It just did not work, and it was no girl’s fault. It was a lot to do with this business. It was just bad timing,” Richard told Pop & Hiss about her former group in a 2011 interview.
