David Byrne & St. Vincent release free EP ahead of new tour

One of the most delightful concerts Pop & Hiss took in last year was David Byrne & St. Vincent’s mid-October gig at the Greek Theatre, where the former Talking Heads frontman and the singer-guitarist born Annie Clark -- as well as an eight-piece horn section -- played in support of their collaborative “Love This Giant” album.

Now the two brainy New York City musicians are set to hit the road together again (starting June 12 in Montclair, N.J.), and to mark the occasion they’ve released a five-track EP called “Brass Tactics,” which you can download below for the price of your email address.

It’s worth the risk of unwanted spam. “Cissus,” an outtake from “Love This Giant,” sounds like the duo’s riff on the Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” while a pair of live tracks -- Talking Heads’ “Road to Nowhere” and “Marrow,” from St. Vincent’s 2009 disc “Actor” -- capture the juiciness of the arrangements the two brought to the Greek.

“Brass Tactics” also includes two remixes of tunes from “Love This Giant.”

In a blog post, Byrne and St. Vincent called last year’s tour “like nothing we’ve ever done before” and said it had taken “a while to collect enough offers” to offset the “big financial gulp” required to take the show on the road.

So far, they’re not scheduled to hit L.A. again, though the trek does conclude its North American leg July 21 at the Fox Theater in Oakland.

Road trip, anyone?
