The Dixie Chicks will embark on the country trio’s first extensive U.S. tour in a decade next year, one that will conclude with a show Oct. 10 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Natalie Maines, Marty Maguire and Emily Robison, who last toured a significant number of U.S. shows in 2006, will open the DCX MXXVI World Tour on June 1 in Cincinnati and also will include Southern California stops on July 15 in San Diego and July 20 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.

They have scheduled 42 dates throughout the U.S. and Canada on this leg of the tour. The Chicks last played in Los Angeles with a 2007 run of a half-dozen shows at the 7,000-seat Nokia Theatre.

The Dixie Chicks were among the biggest country acts to emerge in the 1990s and its albums “Wide Open Spaces” and “Fly” crossed over to mainstream success that helped both reach the Recording Industry Assn. of America’s “diamond” certification status given to albums selling more than 10 million copies.

But the group generated major controversy in the country music world in 2003, when lead singer Maines made remarks critical of President George W. Bush shortly ahead of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Those comments generated boycotts of the group and its music among many U.S. country radio station programmers and fans.

The group has since toured more outside the U.S. than in this country. Tickets for most stops on the new tour go on sale this weekend. Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl and Irvine dates begin sale on Friday. Complete information about tickets and on-sale dates is available at the Chicks’ official website.
