Pop & Hiss is premiering “Put My Baby to Bed,” a track from the forthcoming album “Let’s Fly a Kite” from L.A. singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell.
The indie folk-pop artist went to London to record the album and says “Making the record was much like the sound of the record; breezy, fun with a dash of charm.”
That description pretty much nails “Put My Baby to Bed,” a bouncy ode to being reunited with a loved one — whether that loved one is a child or a romantic partner is something that Mandell leaves up to the listener.
She’s started a campaign on Pledge Music that invites fans to financially support her latest efforts, both in the studio and when she goes back the road again next year.
“The cost of touring has been exacerbated by the ever changing state of the music business, the global economy and the price of gas,” she writes in her Pledge Music pitch, which like Kickstarter and other fundraising sites offers several tiers of support, from $10 entry level that includes a download of the album and updates on her activities to a $500 “Have Coffee With Eleni” offer and a $2,000 pledge that gets the donor an acoustic house concert with her.
“I can no longer afford to bring a band on the road,” she notes, “but I have found that performing solo gives me the chance to really connect with you, the audience.”
She’s also bringing her 3-year-old twins with her when she travels.
“Bringing them on the road has been a joy for me and an education for them,” she says. “I’m certain that traveling is having a really positive impact on them. Keeping them on the road with me is a priority. Your support will not only help fund my upcoming tour but will help keep my family together.”
The album is set for release on Jan. 28. Here's "Put My Baby to Bed":
