Justin Timberlake is back. Again.

Nearly three years after he completed his multi-part “20/20 Experience” project — which itself ended an earlier (and much lengthier) hiatus from music — the singer, actor and committed golf enthusiast released a new single late Thursday, the first sampling from a soundtrack in which he’s extensively involved.

“Can’t Stop the Feeling!” is an up-tempo electro-disco jam that Timberlake wrote and produced with two of pop’s most reliable hitmakers, Max Martin and Shellback (who’ve also worked with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Ariana Grande).

The song is the lead single from an album accompanying this fall’s animated “Trolls” movie, which features the voices of Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel and others. According to a statement, the singer “will oversee all creative direction for the film’s music as well as perform multiple songs on the soundtrack.”

“Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” which by early Friday had topped iTunes’ singles chart, may also signal the imminent arrival of a solo album from Timberlake, who has peppered social media recently with photos of himself working with his old collaborators Pharrell Williams and Timbaland, along with the members of the country group Little Big Town.

Or maybe he’s just really going to bat for “Trolls.”
