Kanye West announces arena tour, with a stop at Staples Center

One place Kanye West can surely perform freely without drawing the ire of human rights activists: North America.

The rapper will head out on his first solo tour in five years, he announced on Friday.

Aptly billed “The Yeezus Tour” after his latest album -- and because, you know, he’s a god -- the seven-week arena tour kicks off Oct. 19 and will hit 23 cities, including a stop at Staples Center on Oct. 26.

West will be joined by L.A. breakout emcee Kendrick Lamar, who has spent most of the summer playing his lauded debut album to festival crowds, for most dates.

Tickets for a handful of stops, including Staples, go on sale Sept. 13.

West’s latest album, “Yeezus,” shot straight to No. 1 when it was released this summer, despite the notoriously outspoken rapper largely turning his back on promoting the album with conventional methods like interviews and radio singles.

The Yeezus Tour is West’s first trek since his joint tour with pal and “Watch the Throne” collaborator Jay Z in 2011, and his first solo tour since 2008.
