Mariah Carey names Jermaine Dupri as new manager

Jermaine Dupri is responsible for some of Mariah Carey’s most undeniable hits -- “We Belong Together,” “Always Be My Baby” and “Shake It Off,” to name a few -- and now he will guide her career too.

The hitmaker, and Carey’s longtime friend and collaborator, will take over management duties, a representative for Carey announced Monday. The singer was previously managed by another longtime collaborator, Randy Jackson.

“A multi-talented artist of Mariah’s caliber should be doing everything imaginable. I’m sure others have said this, but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it’s about the execution,” Dupri said in a statement.

Carey spent a season judging talent on “American Idol,” which she exited earlier this year to shift her focus back to music. She announced that she was prepping a world tour that would begin in Asia in October.

During her brief stint on “Idol,” Carey launched her comeback single, “#Beautiful.” The smoldering, Miguel-assisted single has heated up Billboard’s R&B/hip-hop chart, peaking at No. 4, and is lifted from her long-in-the-works (and delayed) 13th studio album, “The Art of Letting Go.”

Carey has teased fans with pictures of her logging studio time with Dupri as well as Nas, Rodney Jerkins, Mike Will Made-It and Hit-Boy.

“We have a bond that surpasses music,” Carey wrote in a statement. “I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition.”

A prolific producer, Dupri is also responsible for launching the careers of Kris Kross, Jagged Edge, Da Brat, Bow Wow and Xscape as part of his Atlanta-based So So Def imprint.
