Moby, David Lynch to headline IMS Engage 2014

The electronic music conference IMS Engage is getting cinematic this year.

The Ibiza-based lecture and conversation series -- a project from EDM legend and new Angeleno Pete Tong and several music-biz colleagues -- debuted in L.A. last year with guests including Skrillex, Diplo and Ultra Music’s Patrick Moxey. On April 16 at the W hotel in Hollywood, this year’s speakers will focus on how EDM is intertwining with the film world.

Moby, one of the first wave of electronic artists to break big in America, will talk with director David Lynch (himself an experimental musician as well) for a keynote address. Moby sampled Lynch’s music in his hit track “Go,” and the two have since remixed each other’s music. They should have a lot to talk about regarding dance music’s place in surrealist film, and how movies can inform dance music’s immersive, moody vibes.

Also on tap is a discussion with Grammy- and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and EDM producer Junkie XL.

The latter has become one of dance music’s most in-demand film scorers, working with Zimmer on “The Dark Knight Rises” and such recent films as “Divergent” and “300: Rise of an Empire.” More speakers and performances will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets are limited to 350 attendees, and are on sale now for $320.
