The announcement came only as four snare drum hits, but fans knew instantly who was headlining FYF Fest this year.

The decade-old punk and indie blowout (which is now in collaboration with Coachella producer Goldenvoice) debuted its lineup this morning on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” when fest founder Sean Carlson played the first second of My Bloody Valentine’s “Only Shallow,” off its landmark album “Loveless.”

In an interview with host Jason Bentley, Carlson also reeled off a long list of most of the fest’s bigger names, which this year include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, MGMT, Devendra Banhart, the Breeders playing “Last Splash,” the Black Flag revival project Flag, Solange Knowles and experimental beatmakers Shlohmo and Flume.

TIMELINE: Summer’s must see concerts

The festival always makes room for some harsher throwback and experimentalist punk acts, with the Melvins, Metz, Death Grips and Touche Amore holding up the more aggressive end. Dance acts include Classixx, Simian Mobile Disco, Holy Ghost and Poolside.

The fest, which takes place Aug. 24-25, will also throw longtime fans a bone by starting two hours later, going from 2 p.m. to midnight each day instead of starting at noon.

“Twelve hours was just too much music for most fans to handle,” Carlson said in the interview.
