Pink, Pitbull, Carrie Underwood added to American Music Awards lineup

Expect some high-flying acrobatics at the American Music Awards next month now that Pink is added to the slate of performers.

The awards show fixture is among the latest additions to the 40^th anniversary ceremony, which airs live from the Nokia Theatre on Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.

Pink, who topped the charts with her recent disc “The Truth About Love,” likely will find a way to soar over the crowd at Nokia Theatre. It’s become her thing (see her memorable 2010 Grammy showing or her recent aerial assault at the Video Music Awards in September).

Sure to stay more firmly grounded to the stage are pop-rapper Pitbull and country queen Carrie Underwood. They join previously announced performers Christina Aguilera, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Linkin Park.

Unlike the Grammys or the Oscars, the AMAs isn’t a show you watch to find out who takes home an award. But for what it’s worth, Minaj and Rihanna lead the field with four nods apiece. Drake, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher follow with three. For the sixth year, winners will be determined by online voting.

More performers are expected to be announced. But if you’re looking for hints as to who is likely to appear, just check the top of the charts -- and the nominations. Care to wager on how much time will pass during the show before viewers are subjected to “Gangnam Style”? It’s bound to happen.
