Fans can contribute to Rock Hall’s Rolling Stones exhibition

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s upcoming exhibition on the Rolling Stones won’t stop with numerous personal items lent by band members and never previously shared with the public. It also will allow fans to contribute their own photos in the museum’s first fan-generated interactive exhibition.

“Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction” is slated to open May 24, but the interactive fan portion of the show will bow May 13. Fans are invited to submit photos from concerts, of their artwork, memorabilia or other Stones-related items to Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #rockhallsatisfaction.

Those images that are uploaded will be on display in the exhibit as well as online at the Rock Hall’s Facebook page throughout the run of the exhibition through March 2014.

Among the Stones items in the show: Mick Jagger’s green leather jacket worn on the Steel Wheels tour in the late ‘80s, Keith Richards’ rosewood Fender Telecaster guitar, Charlie Watts’ mariachi shirt circa 1975, Brian Jones’ custom Vox teardrop guitar and a photo of Jagger’s school basketball team from 1961.

The exhibit will occupy 2½ floors of the museum in Cleveland, and an associated exhibit at the museum’s library and archives nearby will examine Stones tour productions from 1975 to 1981 with set lists, photos, stage drawings, fabric samples and other items.

It is billed as the first major museum exhibition on the Stones, which just launched their 2013 50 and Counting tour. The band has three more stops slated in Southern California: May 15 and 18 at the Honda Center in Anaheim and a second show May 20 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the tour started May 3.
