Rolling Stones’ L.A. show set for May 2 (maybe)

Opening night of The Rolling Stones’ 50 and Counting tour will be May 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and tickets will go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Friday for Citi card holders and then at 10 a.m. Monday for general sales.

Tickets also go on sale Monday for shows in Anaheim, Boston and Philadelphia that were announced last week. The tour’s Las Vegas stop is the only show for which ticket sale information remains to be announced.

The L.A. date had not been finalized last week, pending scheduling of any NBA or NHL playoff games at the downtown arena, when the run of a dozen 2013 shows in North America and the United Kingdom were announced. The May 2 date is still listed with an asterisk in the Stones’ announcement, indicating it may move if there a playoff game is scheduled on that date.

Four of the previously announced dates will be in California, also including stops May 15 in Anaheim, May 5 in Oakland and May 8 in San Jose. The 50 and Counting tour also will visit Las Vegas (May 11), Toronto (May 25), Chicago (May 31 and June 3), Boston (June 12) and Philadelphia (June 18).

In addition, the Stones booked their first appearance at London’s Hyde Park since 1969, a show for which all 65,000 tickets sold out in five minutes. A second Hyde Park appearance has been added, for which tickets will go on sale Friday.

Tickets went on sale last week for the Oakland, San Jose, Chicago and Toronto shows, with prices running from about $160 to $2,000 for the priciest VIP ticket packages. Each show also will have about 1,000 tickets priced at $85, including service charges. The stage set-up for this round of shows also includes seating directly in front of the stage in a tongue-shaped “Tongue Pit,” with those tickets being sold only in pairs.

It had previously been announced that the long-running group will headline this year’s Glastonbury Festival on June 29, a performance that also sold out quickly.

No additional dates have been booked, but a Stones spokeswoman said it’s possible more may be added.
