Sonny Rollins may cancel April 20 Los Angeles show

Impassioned L.A. fans of Sonny Rollins (you know who you are) may have to wait a while longer to hear the legendary jazz saxophonist perform live at a venue near us.

Rollins has posted on his website and Facebook that he’s been under the weather and that he’s canceling some of his scheduled live gigs this spring. Presumably that would include a planned April 20 concert at the Valley Performing Arts Center at Cal State Northridge.

On his website, Rollins writes: “I’[ve] come up with a respiratory problem, and I have to cancel some upcoming shows. My doctor has given me the green light for June. Please check my web site for my new dates. Meanwhile, I’m busy working on my next CD, Road Shows, vol. 3.”

However, a Valley Performing Arts Center representative said Tuesday morning that the center had not been contacted by Rollins or his representatives.
