Darius Rucker had already won two Grammy Awards as the lead singer in Hootie and The Blowfish when he launched his country-music solo career in 2008.

Faster than you can say “I Only Wanna Be With You,” he went from headlining arenas with Hootie to opening for Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley and other country stars in some of the same arenas.

Rucker, 52, is now an established country star himself and — with Lady Antebellum — is co-headlining the “Summer Plays On” tour, which includes a Saturday concert at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre.

Hootie, meanwhile, has performed only 10 times since the start of 2016.

But Rucker is having his musical cakes and eating them, too. His current tour with Lady Antebellum finds him performing his country hits and such Hootie favorites as “Let Her Cry,” “Hold My Hand” and “I Only Wanna Be With You.”

“Summer Plays On Tour”: Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker, with Russell Dickerson: 7 p.m. Saturday. Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista. $31.25-$99.50 (plus service charges). (800) 745-3000. livenation.com
