KAABOO Del Mar announces 2018 daily performance times. Katy Perry or Robert Plant?

The performance times for the 2018 KAABOO Del Mar festival, which takes place Sept. 14-16 at the Del Mar Racetrack and adjacent fairgrounds, have been announced.

The upscale music, comedy, food and drink festival is being headlined this year by Foo Fighters, Post Malone and Craig Ferguson (Sept. 14), Imagine Dragons, Earth Wind & Fire and Iliza Shlesinger (Sept. 15), and Katy Perry, Robert Plant and Judd Apatow & Friends (Sept. 16).

Plant and Perry’s Sept. 16 sets will overlap, although it is unclear how many fans of the former Led Zeppelin singer will feel conflicted about missing Perry — or vice versa. Either way, anyone hoping to hear Perry and Plant join forces on stage for a mash-up of, say, Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California and Perry’s “California Gurls” will likely have to wait for another opportunity.

On Sept. 14, the performances by Foo Fighters and Post Malone will overlap, while the Sept. 15 headlining sets by Imagine Dragons and Earth, Wind & Fire will also overlap.

The scheduling appears designed to prevent overcrowding at either of the festival’s two largest stages during concurrent performances by the biggest-drawing acts — if not also to draw younger attendees to one stage and older attendees to another.

Tickets for KAABOO range from $149, plus service charges, per day for a single-day Hang Loose general admission pass to $319, plus service charges, for a three-day Hang Loose pass.

Hang Five VIP passes range from $399, plus service charges, for a one-day Friday pass to $1,399, plus service charges, for a three day Hang Five + package.

Three-day Hang Ten VIP packages, for which prices start at $3,799, plus service charges, are sold out.

Three-day Ultimate Hang passes — priced at $15,000 each — are still available, but “only a few” remain, according to the festival website.

Passes are available online at kaaboodelmar.com/get-yours.

New this year is the Katy Perry Cares Pass program, which offers entry to the festival starting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 16 to “exclusively see Katy Perry perform.”

A portion of the proceeds from all Katy Perry Cares passes sold will benefit the nonprofit MusiCares, which helps musicians in need and is a division of the Recording Academy, under whose auspices the annual Grammy Awards are held. Perry has received 13 Grammy nominations to date.

Katy Perry Cares passes are priced at $89 each, plus service charges. They are available online at kaaboodelmar.com/katycares.
