Villaraigosa's promise and paradox

1. Those of us who voted for Villar, and helped to rubber-stamp the re-hire of politicians like Bratton--buying into his "rep" as a major crime-fighter, share culpability in helping (indirectly) to support the continuation of SP 40. I've learned my lesson, but some have not. Tim, is that a big brown spot on your nose?

2. My only recollection of Tony V is that he banged a much younger TV reporter. While married. That's all this guy has done as far as I can tell.

4. The mayor's speech was predictably full of cliches. He's only good at womanizing, photo ops and protecting his illegal alien constituancy. Meanwhile gangs will continue to be a problem as long as we throw lots of money at insipid anti-gang programs and handcuff the police with Special Order 40. We are asked to pay more taxes when he gives tax breaks to grandiose downtown projects, caves in to Tenny Pierce, and tricks the public into voting for a phone tax. LA cannot afford this shallow egotistical man.

5. raise trash fees again? They are already being raised through 2010! Is he proposing a double raise before 2010?

6. His words mean nothing until he rescinds Special Order 40. He's got the blood of Jamiel Shaw on his hands. How many more innocents will die while our "distinguished" Mayor stands at a podium, smiling for the cameras while he hands out false promises, one after the other. He's a national embarrassment to this once fine city, now seemingly in its death throes.

7. As understandable as all of the complaints included in the discussion section may seem to be, we (the residents of this City) at times like to see only one side of the spectrum; and this is that (based on the fact that we elected someone to office) we believe that someone else is responsible for everything bad that happens around us. And if no progress is made, then the immigrants, the educational system, the police department, the government, or someone else is responsible for it. We all are at fault, and I believe that it is time for every citizen to take a positive initiative and contribute to the improvement of our society.

8. I listened to his speech. He is a lightweight who tries to talk heavyweight. How that could be mistaken for promise is beyond me. He completely squandered his chance at governing the city; a million tree initiative is not exactly a major policy legacy. Note to whomever replaces him: there are many many issues in Los Angeles beyond gangs and immigration. Our current mayor might know this if he actually spent any time here.

9. If ever there was a great reason to re-register and VOTE INTELLIGENTLY this November, this mayor, his buddy the legal beagle of LA, plus the OC Sheriff, the Blowhard, polluting Governor, the Speakers of the House and Senate, your 2 girlie Senators and countless Congressional reps....my GAWD!!! WHY WOULDN"T YOU WANT TO VOTE THESE Sons of Bushs OUT OF OFFICE.? They're selling off YOUR BIRTHRIGHTS!!! A sane, rational person would want to vote against them ALL. Yes? No?

10. Tonio Villa-LaGrossa is at it again. Full of air. A speech that was overly perfumed but no substance. When he said the street was safer than in the 50's. Wow..do they have statistics back then? His million trees program should not be a highlight in this one. He should have focused more on additional unemployed city employees. They will end up in the streets either commiting crime or being homeless.
