"Butter" is drawn by Dyllen, 10, Larchmont Charter School, Hollywood. |
We are reprinting the wonderful poem "My Family" as it was incorrectly attributed to Sidney in the December 11 Creativity Corner.
My Family
Jack. 11
Laurel Hall
North Hollywood
My family is like a grocery store where everyone is accepted. My dad is the canned food section; he lasts forever and is always there when you need him. My mom is the check-out counter; she helps everyone and keeps the line moving. My older sister is the sign; an icon amongst us. My twin sister is the produce section; sweet and loveable, but she sometimes goes rotten. I am the frozen food; I may not be the best, but I am always around.
Lazy Lucy Lumpkinlicious
Sydney, 12
Magic Pen Kids
Laguna Hills
Lazy Lucy Lumpkinlicious simply refused to wash the dishes. One day, she came up with a brilliant plan. She smashed every last plate and pan.
"Ha ha! Take that, you grimy spoon! Crusted with Spam and slimy prunes — !"
Lucy's mother walked in uninvited — so irate her hair ignited She saw all her china in crumbs on the floor. It truly resembled a Dish World War.
"Lazy Lucy Lumpkinlicious, what have you done to all my dishes?"
But Lazy Lucy felt no remorse. "Mom, I'm filing for Dish Divorce."
Mrs. Lumpkinlicious could tell by her daughter's glare that she did not think dishwashing was fair.
"Fine, Lucy — you can eat off the floor." And that was what she did forevermore.
If I Built a Village…
Celeste, 8
Lemay Elementary
Van Nuys
If I built a village, there would be fish stores on the block. People there would not litter. And the best of all, there would be no bullies. The streets are clean and the schools are huge. There is a chocolate and candy factory and the best pizza place is Pizza Castle. No one can scream at me because I am only eight. People love my village a lot.
The Turtle
Logan, 6
Magic Pen Kids
Laguna Hills
I float in a silent sea of tourmaline — a turtle without a shell.
