The movie, which revealed how Kermit first met the rest of the Muppets, was a critical and box office hit, opening the door for more Muppet movies. The opportunity led Henson to shut down production of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ENTTV000000115693" title="The Muppet Show (tv program)" href="/topic/entertainment/television/the-muppet-show-%28tv-program%29-ENTTV000000115693.topic">"The Muppet Show"</a> and concentrate on films, the first of which was "The Great Muppet Caper" in 1981.
