Kingdom Day Parade In celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., thousands will line his namesake street and Crenshaw Boulevard for this annual parade, which features floats, marching bands, drill teams, dance groups and special guests. The procession culminates with a festival in Leimert Park. Martin Luther King Boulevard at Western Avenue to Crenshaw Boulevard at Vernon Avenue, L.A. 11 a.m. (562) 531-3150.

Free Admission at LACMA The “Target Free Holiday Mondays” program offers the opportunity for unpaid museum admission on select special occasions and national holidays. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is just such an occasion, so seasoned museumgoers and first-timers alike are welcome to tread LACMA free of charge in honor of the civil rights leader. A special live performance from the Pan Afrikan People’s Arkestra jazz group is scheduled for the celebration. Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Park La Brea. 26th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration The event features a speech by KCET’s Val Zavala, along with a multicultural, interfaith program of musical performances, scholarship presentations and inspirational readings.
