BOOKS

Alex Cohen and Jennifer Barbee By day, Alex Cohen is a mild-mannered radio show host and Jennifer Barbee is a diligent staffer at the WGA — but on the banked battlefield of the roller derby, they are better known as Axles of Evil and Kasey Bomber. Cohen and Barbee, who have both skated with the L.A. Derby Dolls, will sign and present their new book, “Down and Derby,” an inside look at the underground sport. Skylight Books, 1818 N. Vermont Ave., L.A. 7:30 p.m. (323) 660-1175. www.skylightbooks.com.

Jane Wiedlin Not content to rest on laurels whereupon she gussied up punk for pop crowds and legions of teen girls in the Go-Go’s, Wiedlin’s also an accomplished comic book artist. Here she’ll sign copies of her latest, “Lady Robotika,” with fellow artist-travelers Felipe Smith and Ivan Brandon in tow. Meltdown Comics, 7522 Sunset Blvd., L.A. www.meltcomics.com.

POP MUSIC

New Politics The rambunctious Danish three-piece, which recently relocated to Brooklyn and unveiled its self-titled debut album July 13, treats the Southland to its high-energy sound. The trio’s infectious pop punk single, “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” was a big hit on YouTube, featuring an agile, hyper-energetic performance in an equipment-cluttered living room. Viper Room, 8852 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 10 p.m. $15. (310) 358-1880. https://www.viperroom.com.

MOVIES

Ryan Trecartin The video artist’s film works are to narrative movies as a crumbling glacier is to the ice in your cocktail. They’re made of the same stuff, but one is massive, terrifying and inexplicable, and the other keeps your gin and tonic cold. Here his “Trill-ogy Comp & Re’Search Wait’S” series gets a loving screening from MOCA and the Elizabeth Dee Gallery. Cinefamily, 611 N. Fairfax Ave., L.A. 8 p.m. $12. www.cinefamily.org.
