Palin plans next book

Sarah Palin is ready for the next chapter of her publishing career.

Publisher HarperCollins announced Wednesday that the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate is working on a “celebration of American virtues and strengths.” The book is currently untitled, and no release date has been set.

Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue,” released last fall by HarperCollins, has sold more than 2 million copies.

The audience at Bon Jovi’s L.A. tour stop Thursday night at Staples Center will get the first look at a new video in which the New Jersey rock band’s frontman, Jon Bon Jovi, goes to bat for President Obama’s call for increased community volunteerism.

“The thing about volunteerism,” Bon Jovi says in the piece that intersperses footage of community improvement projects with shots of the band in performance, “is that government can’t do it alone, the private sector can’t do it alone, but together they can make a noticeable difference.”

Bon Jovi is the first high-profile musician to endorse the president’s United We Serve program and promote it in major concert venues on his band’s Circle Tour. It is said to be the first grand-scale collaboration between the Corp. for National and Community Service, the federal agency that leads the service sector, and a musical artist.

Country act tops 1 million sold

Last week, country trio Lady Antebellum became the first artist of 2010 to cross the million-sold threshold. Smooth R&B master Sade should hit that mark by the end of the month, as her Epic effort “Soldier of Love” continues to top the U.S. pop chart, selling an additional 126,000 copies in the United States last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures released Wednesday.

To date, “Soldier of Love” has sold 820,000 copies, a total it has reached in just three weeks. Sade’s 1994 “Best Of” set is also getting a boost, having returned to the charts and resting at No. 114 this week. The hits collection has sold more than 1.6 million copies.

Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum continued to hold at No. 2, selling an additional 114,000 copies of “Need You Now” (Capitol), increasing its five-week tally to more than 1.1 million.

Johnny Cash’s posthumous “American VI: Ain’t No Grave” (American Recordings) was the week’s top debut, entering the chart at No. 3 with 54,000 copies sold.

The Pacific Symphony said Tuesday that its 2010-11 season will begin Sept. 23 and include appearances by musicians Lang Lang, Pinchas Zukerman, Yuja Wang and Kirill Gerstein.

In addition, the season will feature a special set of concerts dedicated to Philip Glass as part of the American Composers Festival 2011.

The concerts include performances of Glass’ “Passion of Ramakrishna,” a 40-minute work that had its premiere in 2006 with the Pacific Symphony. The concerts also will feature other pieces by Glass and some by Ravi Shankar.

Concerts will take place at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa.

-- David Ng Obama to be on ‘Most Wanted’

President Obama is going to help TV’s “America’s Most Wanted” mark the milestone broadcast of its 1,000th episode.

Obama will be interviewed by the show’s host, John Walsh, on the episode airing Saturday on Fox, the network said Wednesday.

Walsh, whose 6-year-old son, Adam, was abducted and killed in 1981, has been host of “America’s Most Wanted” since its start. According to Fox, the show has helped capture more than 1,100 fugitives and reunited 43 missing children with their families.
