Kind of reminds me of the time in 2005 when Utah Department of Transportation avalanche control people forgot to take some of the propellant out of a 105 mm howitzer shell and sent it about 3 miles too far while trying to hit a spot in Provo Canyon. They blew up a garden shed in Pleasant Grove instead, and sent shrapnel into 4 nearby homes. One child in one of the houses was saved by chance. He usually took his nap on the couch, but decided to nap on the floor behind it. The couch shielded him from the shrapnel which otherwise probably would have killed him.
Sounds like a few strokes of luck were involved in the Myth Busters incident as well.
