The co-founder of the Weather Underground, the radical antiwar movement that bombed a series of public buildings in the 1960s and '70s, had been living a relatively low-profile life as a university professor in Chicago when his name was put back in the spotlight through his connection to Barack Obama. The two lived in the same Chicago neighborhood and worked together on a school reform board. Though Obama has condemned Ayers' actions of the past, Ayers has kept mum about Obama.
