'I Love Lucy' (1953)
By Yvonne Villarreal, Los Angeles Times staff writer
Adding a baby to the mix on a sitcom is a plot ploy almost as old as TV itself. But over the years, it's had a mixed track record. For some series, it's a sure sign of jumping the shark. For others, it's added some interesting new twists. The latter scenario was the case for "I Love Lucy." More than 44 million viewers tuned in to watch Ricky Ricardo proclaim, "The time has come." The bandleader and his flame-haired wife Lucy welcomed Little Ricky in the show's second season.
