Steve Carell could carry a big summer comedy all on his own: Witness the success of "The 40 Year Old Virgin" in 2005. But he also has questionable taste: Witness the disaster of last summer's "Evan Almighty." "Get Smart" is neither a career high nor a career low -- it's just treading water. But by adding Bill Murray inside a fake tree on the National Mall in Washington, Carell manages to help us coast on audience goodwill through the rest of the film.
