'3:10 to Yuma'

Though the father/son dynamic was barely explored in the 1957 original film, director James Mangold made it a focal point in his acclaimed 2007 version of the Western drama based on an early short story by <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST001176" title="Elmore Leonard" href="/topic/arts-culture/elmore-leonard-PEHST001176.topic">Elmore Leonard</a>. <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PECLB000324" title="Christian Bale" href="/topic/entertainment/movies/christian-bale-PECLB000324.topic">Christian Bale</a> plays a disabled veteran of the Civil War who lives with his wife and two sons on a poverty-stricken ranch. In order to raise money to pay off his debts, Bale's Dan Evans agrees to be part of a posse to transport ruthless but colorful outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) from their town to Yuma to catch the 3:10 prison train. Evans' oldest son, William (Logan Lerman) feels his father is a failure and harbors a hero-worship crush on Wade. When William asks to go on the journey, Evans refuses. But William manages to follow the posse. Ultimately joining the group, he learns that there is a lot more to his father than he ever imagined.
