UNDERRATED: John Hollenbeck's "Songs I Like a Lot"

( October 8, 2009 ) As plainly titled as a covers album can be, the new release from this Grammy-nominated bandleader-drummer treats the music of Queen, Imogen Heap and Ornette Coleman with an equal, dynamic grace. A percolating "Man of Constant Sorrow" and a surprise big-band reworking of Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman" are rendered with enough lush invention to become something you like a lot too. |
