The brilliant young actor, who starred as the psychopath Bruno in Alfred Hitchcocks 1951 classic Strangers on a Train, was filming Leo McCareys strident anti-Communist drama My Son John when he suddenly died on Aug. 28, 1951, at the age 32, after he received a sedative injection from his psychiatrist and then went into respiratory failure. Parts of My Son John, which was released in 1952, were rewritten. McCarey also consulted with Hitchcock with the master of suspense ultimately giving McCarey some footage of Walker from Strangers to fill in some blanks. McCarey had someone dub in Walkers final words in his film.
