Natalie Wood( MGM/UA Entertainment / January 23, 2008 )
The three-time Oscar nominee was in the midst of filming the sci-fi thriller Brainstorm for director Douglas Trumbull when she drowned off Catalina Island on Nov. 29, 1981, at age 43. Though the film was near the end of production, Wood had yet to film some critical scenes. The studio wanted to cease filming and claim the production insurance. But Trumbull insisted on completing the film. The ending was constructed from scenes Wood had shot before her death. And in much the style MGM used with Saratoga, Trumbull utilized a stand-in and some fancy camera angles to give the illusion it was Wood. The film, which was dedicated to the actress, was released in 1983.
