AMC has given a series order to drama "Low Winter Sun."
Written by Chris Mundy, who will also serve as showrunner, project's storyline begins with the murder of a Detroit cop by a fellow detective. That incident, in turn, brings the detective into the heart of the city's underworld where the line between cops and crooks is quite blurry.
"Low Winter Sun" is based on the 2006 U.K. miniseries written by Simon Donald.
Endemol is set to produce with AMC Studio, with filming to begin in Detroit. First season will consist of 10 hourlong episodes. British thesp Mark Strong, who toplined in the similarly titled U.K. version, and Lennie James star.
Endemol and AMC teamed on "Hell on Wheels," which is returning for its third season.Cable has yet to make a decision on the untitled Richard LaGravenese-Tony Goldwyn project, which could receive a series pickup in 2013.
AMC will launch the final season of "Breaking Bad" next year and is prepping for a third season of "The Killing," the moody drama that was originally canceled but is now returning to the net.
