The Burbank Civitan Club will hold its 41st annual St. Patrick’s Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday, March 11, 2012 in the Starlight Room at the Castaway Restaurant, 1250 E. Harvard Road. Burbank. The buffet brunch will include corn beef and cabbage and will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. (remember to set your clocks to daylight saving time).

The entertainment will be provided by the very popular young Irish dancers from the O’Connor School of Irish Dance. There will be music for dancing, a silent auction, door prizes and fun for guests of all ages.

Proceeds from the event provide necessary funds that allow the club to help the many organizations they support like: BCR “A Place to Grow,” the annual Baseball Jamboree which features hundreds of young Hap Minor Baseball players, Special Olympics, the Civitan International Research Center for Mental Diseases, as well as other local projects as needed.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for children under 12. To purchase tickets or for more information call Elaine Paonessa at (818) 845-6851 or DeeDee Ruhlow at (818) 843-6950.

Magnolia Park Optimists

I recently had the opportunity to visit our friends of the Magnolia Park Optimist Club and learn some of the good deeds they have been doing. One of their recent featured speakers was Barbara Howell, Director of the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, who impressed upon them how desperate BTAC is for food and personal items in order to continue to provide services to those who are in such dire need. The day of my visit, the club had filled a table top with canned goods, cereal, and more. It is my understanding that next week they will all bring toothbrushes and toothpaste. All these donations will go to BTAC.

They are also very busy planning their upcoming fundraising Golf Tournament to be held on May 18, 2012. For more information, contact Terry Scott at (818) 842-7950.

The Magnolia Park Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Burbank Elks Club, 2232 Hollywood Way, Burbank. For more information contact Terry Scott at (818) 842-7950 or at tscott@earthlink.net.

Burbank Sunrise Rotary

Members of the club team up to help the needy. Member Juan Guillen heard that DevExpress, a software company, had a lot of shirts to donate. So members Flex Stacy, Dave Thomas and Beth Anderson went over and picked up about a dozen boxes packed with both long-sleeve dress shirts and T-shirts and stored them in a garage until President Rod Gregson was able to locate two charities, Los Angeles Family Housing and Covenant House, that desperately needed them. He then proceeded to go through all the boxes and sort them, approximately 1,500 shirts, by men’s and women’s styles and sizes to correspond with the wishes of the two charities before giving them to the LAFH driver.

Needless to say, both charities were ecstatic and were able to use them all. And that is how things get done!

The Burbank Sunrise Rotary Club meets on Tuesdays at 7:15 a.m. at the Burbank Holiday Inn, 150 E. Angeleno Ave., Burbank. For more information contact Rod Gregson at (818) 428-0151 or at www.burbanksunriserotary.com.
