LAM names deputy head
Ed Fosmire will step into his new role as deputy director of the Laguna Art Museum on May 29, officials announced.
Fosmire will leave his job as executive director of the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA), a title he held for two years, to fill LAM’s No. 2 slot, where he will mainly be in charge of development. It will also entail raising money for the museum through corporate and individual gifts, grants and memberships.
Before going to Oceanside he held number jobs at museums in Los Angeles and Orange counties: director of development at Cal State Long Beach; director of development and marketing at the Long Beach Museum of Art; and grants director for Long Beach’s Art Council.
He also has worked in the education program at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, and he teaches an art history course at Chapman University in Orange.
“I have been a long-time admirer of Laguna Art Museum and a frequent visitor,” Fosmire said in a prepared statement.
“I truly believe that this is a pivotal moment for the museum and a time of great potential growth,” he continued.

Playhouse looking for volunteers
The Laguna Playhouse has started to compile a standing list of people who would like to volunteer at the Playhouse.
“Whether you’re a high school student, a senior — or anyone in between — you will be welcomes as an auxiliary volunteer member,” Elizabeth Pearson, the Laguna Beach City Councilwoman who works as the playhouse’s development director, said in a prepared statement.
“As a nonprofit organization, we value the work our volunteers provide. The volunteers provide critical time and talent, at no cost to the Playhouse, and help us advance the Playhouse’s visibility and efficiency.”
People who are on the list will be notified if they can volunteer to help out with specific needs as they arise, according to a news release from the Playhouse. Those who volunteer can receive a ticket to a show there after working for three hours, among other perks.

Laguna gallery and Aston Martin team up
Dawson Cole Fine Art and Aston Martin Newport Beach will celebrate a new partnership with a “L’Art du Soleil” event in Laguna Beach on Saturday night that will feature acrobats and a display of Aston Martin cars.
“We have always wanted to align art with the art world,” James Peacock, the general manager at Aston Martin Newport Beach, said in a prepared statement. “Aston Martin cars are truly works of art. I think that any enthusiast can appreciate the design and craftsmanship of our vehicles.”
The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Dawson Cole Fine Art, 326 Glenneyre St. A portion of the proceeds will benefit HomeAid Orange County, a nonprofit providing housing for homeless people.

Laguna Beach Live! has announced its lineup for the summertime Jazz Wednesdays series in the rose garden of the Hotel Laguna, 425 S. Coast Hwy.
The Latin Jazz Syndicate will play on the evening of June 13. That will be followed by the Rickey Woodard Quartet on June 27, Tom Luer’s Project Popular on July 11, Yve Evans & Co. on July 25, the Josh Nelson Trio on Aug. 8, the Jet Set Quintet with Tony Guerrero & Matt Johnson on Aug. 22, and Bossa Zuzu on Sept. 5.

In other news, Hedy Buzan on Saturday morning will lead a botanicals art class for beginners at the South Laguna Community Garden. The class, offered through the Laguna Outreach for Community Arts, will go from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
